On 24 February 2023, Kholongo Dam Construction site was handed over to the Contractor Plem Construction. Officials from the Ministry of Water and Sanitation, Doŵa District Council and the Contractor were on site for the site handovers.

At the end, Chiefs, community leaders and the general public from within the vicinity of the site for the dam regarding multipurpose Kholongo were apprised.

The contract was signed on 9th February 2023. The contractor assured the audience that three years down the line, the dam will be in place and asked for cooperation.

The Dam shall be a source of water for domestic consumption, irrigation, fish farming, tourist activities and as well as maintaining environmental flows.

The areas that are earmarked to be supplied with potable water include Mponela Town which is on the plan for one of the Secondary Cities and other surrounding areas including Kasese, Makonola, Madisi, Kazonga, Mtiti, Nkhamanga, Kawele Trading Centres.
